At Saint Michael’s Medical Center, we are firmly committed to providing high-quality care to achieve patient satisfaction. If an issue arises that cannot be resolved by the patient’s caregiver, the Patient Experience Coordinator is available to address any concerns from patients and their families. To contact the Patient Experience Coordinator, please call (973) 877-5295.

Patients and families may report any patient safety concerns to outside regulatory and accreditation agencies, i.e., the New Jersey Department of Health and the Joint Commission. The New Jersey Department of Health may be contacted by:

  • Written notification at the following address: New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Health Facilities and Licensing, PO Box 367, Trenton, NJ 08625-0367.
  • Calling the New Jersey Department of Health Complaint Hotline at 800-792-9770 to receive information to file a written complaint.

Any patient safety concerns may be reported to the Joint Commission as follows:

  • Visit the Joint Commission home page at www.jointcommission.org and click on the link under the Action Center which states “Report a Patient Safety Event.”
  • By fax to (630) 792-5636.
  • By mail to the Office of Quality and Patient Safety, the Joint Commission, One Renaissance Boulevard, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181 (include the hospital name and complete address).

We support price transparency. For our patients to understand their potential financial liability for hospital services, we are making our hospital charges available to patients. Hospital charges vary based on the type of care provided. The price can differ from patient to patient for the same services. The price will be different for complications or different treatment for the patient's personal health condition. Patients also may qualify for financial assistance. We are dedicated to providing consumers with as much information as possible regarding potential healthcare costs. Accordingly, we have listed information on the insurers and products the hospital participates in as well as any exceptions.

This list may not be comprehensive. For example, specialty insurers such as workers’ compensation and personal injury protection (“PIP”) are not included because there are a number of different types of insurance products and we may not participate in all of them.

If you do not see your plan listed on our website, we strongly recommend that you contact us or your health insurance plan to confirm whether your plan is in-network or out-of-network.

It is also important that you contact your insurance company prior to receiving services or care at Saint Michael's. Each plan is different and some provide different levels of coverage that could make a difference in your out-of-pocket costs. It is always best to contact your insurance company to obtain more information.

In addition, the physicians who provide care within our hospital might not participate in the same insurance plans as the hospital. You should check with the physician who is arranging your healthcare services to see which insurance plans the physician participates in. You should also know that these healthcare professional(s)’ costs are not included in the facility’s charges. They will bill separately.

Physicians and Physicians Groups With Whom We Contract

They are not hospital employees but instead have a contract with the hospital to provide certain healthcare services that prevents us from using any other physicians for these services. You should also know that these healthcare professionals’ costs are never included in the facility’s charges. They will bill you separately.
