Metabolic and Bariatric Team

The Metabolic and Bariatric team at Saint Michael's Medical Center is dedicated to working with each individual patient to provide an optimal outcome and long-term success. It consists of an experienced bariatric surgeon, physician assistants, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, medical consultants, fitness experts and a knowledgeable office staff.

Saniea Majid, MD

Saniea F. Majid, MD

Director of the Metabolic and Bariatric Center at Saint Michael’s Medical Center

Dr. Majid received her General Surgical training at Brown University School of Medicine and New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ-Newark). She then pursued a fellowship in Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Robotics at University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

Silvana Panfili

Silvana Panfili, RD

Registered Dietitian

Silvana attended Montclair State University where she earned her BS in Nutrition and completed her dietetic internship program in June 2010. Silvana has experience working with both surgical and medical weight loss patients. She provides medical nutrition therapy, dietary guidance, and behavioral modification counseling to those undergoing weight loss surgery as well as those in the non-surgical weight loss program. She strives to help all patients reach their individual goals and is passionate about helping her patients to live a healthy, happy, and satisfying life.

Silvana is currently working on receiving her Masters degree in Applied Nutrition with a specialization in Obesity and Eating Disorders from Northeastern University.

Beth Haessig

Beth L. Haessig, Psy. D.

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Beth L. Haessig, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist, body-centered psychotherapist, and a Kripalu-certified yoga teacher. Her mind-body interventions are experiential, body-focused and skill based, as she views her client's challenges as sourced in a lack of mindful awareness & skills rather than pathology. She specializes in trauma, anxiety and depression, eating issues, and school psychology. Her doctorate is from Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. She received a Masters from Montclair University and an undergraduate degree from Tufts University.

Beyond her doctorate she received 5 years of training at the Core Energetic Institute in NYC. Additional training includes Trauma Resiliency Model(R), LifeForce Yoga (R),
Exceptional Marriage (R) and MySelf Design (R)
(bariatric counseling).

Mark Gallagher

Mark Gallagher
Practice Manager

Mark Gallagher has worked for almost 30 years in the healthcare industry.
Most recently he worked as an Operations Manager in the Clinical Cancer Center at NYU/Langone Medical Center. He successfully opened a new location for the Oncology Department and managed the day-to-day operations of that site.

Mark also worked at The Valley Hospital where he managed all aspects of multiple Oncology Physician practices. He has extensive experience in managing outpatient physician practices at Advantage Care Physicians, UMDNJ/University Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Mark received a BS in Business Administration from Montclair State University and a Masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in healthcare from Seton Hall University.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Cheryl Burnett
Bariatric Coordinator/ Nurse Practitioner

Cheryl graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey with a Master of Science Degree in Nursing in 2007 and has been practicing as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Here at St Michael's Medical Center Cheryl holds the role of the Metabolic and Bariatric Clinical Coordinator. Cheryl works closely with Dr. Majid and her patients to ensure the best patient care for patients through their weight loss journey. She is committed to guiding patients through the process toward surgery, assist patient with gaining insurance approval for surgery, as well as continuing patient education, counseling, and support before and after surgery. She also ensures bariatric program compliance to meet quality standards. Before joining the Metabolic and Bariatric Center, Cheryl worked at Broadway House for Continuing Care where she provided direct clinical care to patients affected by HIV.
