Diabetes Management Center
The Diabetes Management Center at Saint Michael’s Medical Center
provides a full range of diagnostic, treatment, education, and prevention
services for diabetes, a chronic disease in which there are high levels
of sugar (glucose) in the blood.
While the main treatment for diabetes is exercise and diet to lower high
blood glucose levels, the Center will help you learn such basic diabetes
management skills as:
- How to test and record your blood sugar, or glucose, level.
- What to eat, when and how often.
- How to take any medications, if any are prescribed.
- Where to obtain diabetes supplies and how they should be stored.
Despite such potential complications as eye problems or blindness, sores
and infections of the foot and skin, high blood pressure and high cholesterol,
nerve and kidney damage, Saint Michael's can help you learn how to
control and live with the disease and stay up-to-date on new research
and treatments.
